SMS Use Policy
This SMS Use Policy explains how Chartered.Work (“the Platform,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) may collect, use, and manage phone numbers for SMS-based security features (such as verification codes and security alerts) if those features are enabled. It supplements our Terms of Service (“Terms”) and Privacy Policy.
1. Purpose and Scope
If SMS-based features are enabled and you opt in, we may use phone numbers to provide SMS-based security features (e.g., verification codes, account security alerts). This Policy outlines our SMS messaging terms, opt-in/opt-out processes, message frequency, and potential carrier charges.
2. Collection of Phone Numbers
- User Entry: You voluntarily provide your phone number during account registration or within your account settings. We may send a verification code via SMS to confirm its validity if SMS-based security features are enabled.
- Consent: By submitting your phone number, you confirm you are authorized to receive text messages at that number.
3. Use of Collected Phone Numbers
- Verification/Security Codes: If enabled, we may send unique, time-sensitive codes via SMS to help secure your login process or other sensitive actions.
- Security Alerts: In certain cases (e.g., suspicious login attempts), we may send security-related SMS messages if you have opted in.
- No Marketing Messages: We do not use phone numbers for marketing or promotions. Your phone number is not used to train any system.
- Data Sharing: We do not share phone numbers with third parties except as needed for SMS delivery or as required by law.
4. Message Frequency
- Security Requests: If enabled, you may receive an SMS when you sign in or when performing sensitive account actions that require verification.
- Security Notifications: Rare messages may be sent for urgent security alerts.
- No Scheduled Campaigns: We do not send recurring marketing or promotional texts.
5. Carrier Charges
Your mobile carrier may charge standard message or data rates for SMS messages. All charges are your responsibility, based on your cellular plan and provider.
6. Opt-In and Opt-Out Procedures
- Opt-In: If SMS-based security features are enabled, providing your phone number and enabling those features constitutes your consent to receive these messages.
-
Opt-Out Methods:
- Account Settings: Remove or update your phone number within your profile settings. You can also disable SMS 2FA if an alternative (e.g., email 2FA) is available.
- Customer Support: If you cannot access your account settings, contact our support team to request removal of your phone number.
- Impact of Opting Out: Disabling SMS may limit your ability to receive login codes or timely security notices.
7. Data Retention
- Storage Duration: We retain phone numbers as part of your account profile until you remove them or close your account.
- Account Deletion: If you delete your account, phone number data is handled according to our Privacy Policy.
8. Your Responsibilities
- Accuracy: You agree to provide a valid number and keep it up to date.
- Permission: You will not use another person’s phone number without their explicit consent.
- Liability: You accept any message or data fees charged by your carrier.
9. Disclaimer and Limitations
- SMS Delivery: We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free SMS delivery, as carrier outages or coverage issues may occur.
- No Liability for Delays: We are not responsible for delayed or missed SMS notifications due to external factors beyond our control.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in our practices. Significant updates may be announced via email or posted on the Platform prior to taking effect. Periodic review is encouraged.
